WCSD Receives State Grant for Social Workers

School counselors, social workers, and other mental health professionals play a critical role in providing services and support for students, staff, and families in the Washoe County School District.

Now, the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) has awarded a grant to the District to fund 37 positions for social workers and other mental health professionals in the coming school year. The Social Workers in Schools Grant Awards are administered by the Office for a Safe and Respectful Learning Environment within the NDE.

WCSD’s Counseling Services Department trains, supports, and provides leadership to the District’s K-12 counselors. Counseling works with educational partners and stakeholders to increase resources and options to provide academic and other opportunities for students. The department also provides direct services to families and schools, and assists with resources and ensures supports.

This grant funding will be in effect for two years, and the District is in regular contact with the State of Nevada to ensure our students have the resources they need to succeed.
