Washoe County School District (WCSD) has several staff members that are assuming new roles beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. Although there are many positions that have been filled, the district has a new Chief Academic Officer and two new Area Superintendents.
Area Superintendent for Acceleration Zone schools, Debra Biersdorff, has been named as the Chief Academic Officer. She will oversee the following departments: Curriculum & Instruction, Northwest Regional Professional Development Program, Professional Learning, Assessment, ELL & World Languages, CTE & Signature Academies, Gifted & Talented Education, Title 1, and Zoom and Victory Schools programming. Biersdorff has served WCSD for 25 years in many roles including teacher, assistant principal, principal, and area superintendent.
Two WCSD principals will be serving as Area Superintendents in the Office of School Leadership. Lauren Ford, Procter Hug High School principal, will be serving in this new role along with Joe Ernst, principal at Anderson Elementary School. Ernst joined WCSD in 1996 and has been a classroom teacher, assistant principal at Alice Smith and Taylor elementary schools, and principal at Taylor and Anderson elementary schools.
We wish all three of these individuals much success in their new roles!
