Students rock the Discovery Museum at Joy Prom event

Students and volunteers enjoyed the Joy Prom event at the Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum on Saturday, May 6th. More than 150 Special Education students and their guests danced, dined, and celebrated together. This national event was sponsored in our community by the Blue Key Honor Society at the University of Nevada, Reno.

The Blue Key Honor Society provided this free event to local high school students in Special Education classes. Other sponsors of this full-scale event were: DJ Rob Diehl, Raley’s, Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum, Aly’s Prom Closet, Paul Mitchell, Sephora, Reno Youth City Council, Buffalo Wild Wings, Dolan Auto Group, Royal Entertainers, Olive Garden, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and SoSu TV. The WCSD JROTC cadets were an integral part of the event providing decoration services, photography, crowns for each school’s King and Queen candidates, a saber arch, and volunteers.

“Everyone had a great time dancing and eating,” said Anita Albanese, president of the Blue Key Honor Society. “The students looked so nice in their formal dresses and tuxedos. We are already excited for our fourth annual Joy Prom next year!”
