Gifted and Talented (GT) students at Jessie Beck Elementary School participated in the LEGO Robotics competition last year, which dealt with “hydro.” They researched water movement, storage, and location, and carried their lesson well past the actual competition by surveying students, staff, and parents regarding the water sources at their school.
The GT students determined that their peers weren’t drinking enough water, so they started a “Change for Change” campaign, gathering pocket money from other students and sponsorships from area businesses for a new “Hydration Station” at their school. The station was installed and can be used to fill water bottles with clean water, eliminating the need for disposable plastic bottles.
Matt Oates, GT teacher, and Principal Erin Lane joined several students who were interviewed by KTVN Channel 2 News. Congratulations to the GT class at Jessie Beck Elementary School!
