The Washoe County School District offers TWI (Two-Way Immersion), dual language education to its students as a way to develop language proficiency and literacy in English and Spanish. Two-Way Immersion integrates native English speakers and native Spanish speakers in order to develop bilingualism and biliteracy, academic achievement, and cross-cultural competencies for all students.
Currently, there are TWI programs at three schools: Donner Springs Elementary School, Jessie Beck Elementary School, and Mt. Rose K-8 School of Languages.
Donner Springs Elementary School is currently recruiting kindergartners for the 2018-19 school year whose parents would like for them to register in a TWI kindergarten class. Students who speak English and students who speak Spanish are encouraged to apply.
There will be two informational open houses for the program at the school:
On Wednesday, May 30 from 8:45am to 9am
Or on Thursday, May 31 from 3:45pm to 4:15pm
Both will take place at Donner Springs Elementary School, located at 5125 Escuela Way in Reno.
