Special Screening of “Farmers for America” to Support Community Members in Need

AACT logoReno, NV (February 15, 2018) – Celebrate future leaders in the agriculture industry with a benefit screening of “Farmers for America” at the Washoe County School District’s Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology (AACT) on February 23rd.

Donations collected go to help people in need in the Reno community.

“Farmers for America” is a documentary about the future of the food industry. As the average American farmer approaches the age of 60, it’s up to a new guard of farmers to step up to the plate. This documentary takes a look at the young people willing to take on the responsibility of feeding America and the challenges they must overcome.

The screening is being hosted by the FFA chapter at AACT, some of those next-generation agriculture professionals, training right here Northern Nevada.

According to the Nevada FFA Association, more 1,500 students across the state are enrolled in agriculture education.  In Washoe County, students can prepare for career opportunities in agriculture through Career & Technical Education, or CTE, programs focused on specific career tracks. Agriculture oriented programs include the Animal Science program at the Academy for Arts, Careers and Technology (AACT) and the Center for Agricultural Science and Engineering at North Valleys high school.

The screening of “Farmers for America” takes place during national FFA week, when FFA chapters around the nation celebrate the students entering the agriculture industry, and the difference the organization makes on their lives. FFA, historically known as “Future Farmers of America” is a student organization for young people pursuing all kinds of careers in the agriculture industry, from farming to science, medicine, business and more.

AACT’s FFA Chapter is requesting an entry donation of a new package of underwear or socks that will be as part of their chapter service learning project.  All donations will go to Lexie’s Gift, a local nonprofit that supports the homeless and at-risk youth.

Before the movie, buy some snacks or a raffle ticket – all proceeds from those go to help students in local FFA chapters.
